BEFORE PACKING

Before you pack your film, please inspect each reel with both your eyes and your nose. If it has a strong acrid or noxious odor, it may have already shrunk or deformed past the point at which it can safely be projected without damage. The same may be true if the film appears "bunched" in its reel. Now, run your finger along the packed edges of the film as it lies in its reel. If a residue collects on your finger tip when you do so, the film may be under attack by mold, mildew or fungus. Please call Share the Memories if you suspect problems.

HOW TO PACK YOUR FILM

It's important for you to organize your films before packing them for shipment. Bearing in mind that each DVD can hold about 1 hour of content at its highest resolution, you should try to estimate which films should be copied together onto each DVD. Estimate the total time that each reel of film will run:

a 7-inch reel of film (roughly 400 feet) will run about 24 minutes
a 5-inch reel of film (roughly 200 feet) will run about 12 minutes
a 3-inch reel of film (roughly 50 feet) will run about 3 minutes

Before packing, arrange your films into groups that correspond to the DVDs to which you want them copied. Name each group and then chronologically number and label the films within that group. If a group containing four films were named, "Smith Family (1970-1975)", you would place a small label onto each reel within that group as follows:

          "Smith Family (1970-1975), 1 of 4"
          "Smith Family (1970-1975), 2 of 4"
          "Smith Family (1970-1975), 3 of 4"
          "Smith Family (1970-1975), 4 of 4"

The DVD made from these films will contain them all and will be labeled, "Smith Family (1970-1975)". Remember, if you designate a group of films to be placed onto a single DVD, they will be, even if their running time is greater than the recommended maximum of one hour. In order to fit more than an hour of film onto a DVD, extra compression will be necessary, and that compression will result in somewhat degraded video images. Remember, for the best image of your film on your DVD, you should limit its content to about an hour. Don't use Post-It notes to label your films; because they don't stick well enough, they'll come loose.

Now, pack the films into a sturdy box, padding them appropriately to prevent their bouncing around when the box is handled. Place into the box an envelope containing your order form and payment.

Tape the box securely and send it to

          Integra Computing   (Share the Memories)

When the box arrives here, you will receive an e-mail confirming your order. Then, several days later, you will receive another announcing the shipment of your films and DVD(s) back to you.
